Video Production

Recorded vocabulary snapshot. This page is generated from a saved database extract, not a live connection. Rebuilding the site does not refresh its measurements. Draft wording comes from review notes; check recorded decisions for approved meaning. Stored values alone do not prove current prompt or filter behavior.

part of Creative Production · recorded level: Discipline · 0 pieces of work carry it · 4 entries in its comparison notes

The level names are Service → Discipline → Craft. This page uses the level recorded in the snapshot. Its definition and parent links still need individual review; the level name is not approval of either.

Recorded definition and use

Brands hire video production when they need live-action work made — a commercial shoot, brand film, music video, event capture, or entertainment piece. The market's ubiquitous peer term is 'Live Action' (5 of 9 benchmark studios use it as a top-level work bucket beside Design and Animation).

The live-action moving-image craft family: work made with real cameras, physical sets and locations, on-camera talent, and shoot crews. Parent discipline of the on-set crafts (Direction, Cinematography, Live Action Production) and the deliverable production crafts (Commercial / Spot, Music Video, Branded Content, Documentary, Film & TV / Entertainment, Live / Experiential).

Tag it when…

Tag at L1 when the piece is clearly live-action camera-made craft but no specific leaf can be honestly named (CM1: discipline-known/leaf-unknown is a legal L1 tag). Visible signals: real photographed footage, physical locations or sets, on-camera human talent, shoot-scale production values.

Never tag it when…

Never tag when the moving image is made frame-by-frame or rendered (that goes to Animation and its leaves) or when the 'footage' is AI-generated with no camera behind it (that goes to Generative AI Production; content_origin scopes it). Never use as a junk drawer for any video file — a motion-graphics piece delivered as .mp4 is Animation by craft, not Video Production.

Comparison notes for 4 other entries

These recorded notes compare this entry with related services, disciplines, crafts or other descriptions. Their wording remains subject to review.

  • disc animation — Animation makes frames (drawn, keyframed, rendered); Video Production shoots them. A CG piece with a virtual 'camera' is Animation/3D craft, not this discipline.
  • disc post production — Post-Production is the finishing craft AFTER the shoot (Editing, VFX, Color Grading); Video Production is the making of the footage itself. Most finished live-action pieces co-tag both families.
  • disc photography — Photography is stills craft; Video Production is motion. A photo shoot's BTS video is Video Production; the campaign stills are Photography.
  • disc generative ai production — Sora-class clips that LOOK live-action are Generative AI Production — no camera existed; the ai_generated⇒strip-cinematography rule (CD4) applies down the branch.

At what size it applies

Asset tag when the whole piece is live-action made (prefer a leaf; honest L1 tag when the leaf is unknown). Moment tag when live-action footage is one beat inside a piece that is otherwise another craft — e.g. a live-action insert inside an animated spot.
